The Marine Mammal Center has facilities to care for up to
200 marine mammals at one time. Because of their unique adaptations
to life at sea, specially designed and constructed facilities
are an important factor enabling quality care. These facilities
include an intensive care unit,
special otter and cetacean facilities, an oil
spill response area and pools for seals and sea lions.
In order to care for large number of marine mammal patients,
The Center also has a complex life-support
system. In addition, an onsite lab and post mortem room
support research on marine mammal physiology, disease and
ocean contaminants that affect marine mammal health.
